全罩式安全帽容易導致頸椎骨折全身癱瘓？

常常有人在爭辯全罩安全帽會斷頸椎，戴半罩安全帽比較好，但是事實上都是一場誤會(鬧劇)


先說結論：「全罩式會比開放式(半罩、3/4罩)還要來的安全」

一、首先，在2007/12/18的時候，出現了一篇新聞報導...

時報資訊：2007/12/18 張翠芬／台北報導

台灣地區機車數量驚人，但讓脊髓醫學權威楊詠威醫師更訝異的是，到處都可看見機車騎士配戴全罩式安全帽。由於全罩式安全帽容易導致頸椎骨折全身癱瘓，他建議有關當局應正視這個問題。

據統計，在大陸平均每百萬人當中，有64位為脊損患者；台灣是50人/每百萬，而美國是35人/每百萬，而香港是每百萬人口中有10人為脊損患者。香港的比例如此低是因為香港沒有機車，車速也很慢。而台灣因為機車眾多，導致脊髓損傷比例頗高。

楊教授表示，全罩式設計雖然可以保護頭部撞擊的外傷，但對頸椎卻會造成嚴重傷害。美國在1967年，曾針對美式足球運動員因全罩式安全帽導致頸椎骨折癱瘓而做研究，由於全罩式的後面帽緣剛好卡在頸椎部位，足球運動員頭部受到撞擊之後，雖然保護了頭部，但頸椎反而被安全帽後緣撞碎。

現在，美式足球已將安全帽改成半罩式，運動員頸椎受傷的比率也大為降低。一般來說，自行車選手的安全帽就是半罩式，不會傷害到頸椎。楊教授建議台灣有關當局能留意這個問題，請騎士改戴半罩式安全帽或重新改良機車安全帽的設計。

Dear Dr. Young,

I'm a huge motorcycling fan in Taiwan.
I just read your article about the safety of motorcycle helmets
on the internet on Yahoo.
In this article, you mentioned that full-faced helmets are more dangerous than
open-faced ones.
I tend to disagree with your point of view.

I have to strongly oppose your idea, because within a certain range of speed,
a full-faced helmet offers statistically better protection than an open one.
Yes, as you said, there is a slight chance of hurting the neck, however,
you would probably still be alive.
This is especially true for when the collision occurs at the front of the head.

With the possibility of hurting the neck, many safety gear companies
have developed systems avoiding this situation. For example, Hans system
applied in Formula 1 (http://www.f1nutter.co.uk/tech/hans_device.php),
general neck supporters (http://search.ebay.co.uk/neck-brace ),
and a more professional KTM neck brace
(http://www.ktm.co.uk/Neck-Brace-Special.1299.19.html).

I have had the experience of twice hitting my head to the ground at the speed
of 30-40 km/hr. If it were not that I wore a full-faced helmet both times,
I could have probably hurt my jaws or ruined my face.
However, I finished both trips successfully and I am able to write
this message for you.

As a martial art lover,
I happen to know that our jaw is a very weak part of the head.
For example, if there were a strong force heading towards the jaw,
the jaw would be easily broken and the force would directly head towards
the hindbrain and snowball into even more serious injuries.
If the speed went above 100 km/hr and you hit an object with your bike,
it would not really matter what you wore at that time. However, if the force
was within the range that our neck could tolerate, surely a full face helmet
is a much better choice!

Can you please give me the URL for what I was supposed to have said.
I don't recall saying that full-faced motorcycle helmets are more dangerous than open-faced ones.
I may have been misinterpreted or misquoted.
I remember talking to a reporter in Taiwan about how modern helmets have higher backs and that this is a good because it reduces the risk of spinal cord injury.
I was referring only to the rear and praised this development.
I believe that full-faced helmets are better than open helmets.

你可不可以給我你看到的那個新聞網址?我不記得我說過全罩摩托車用安全帽比半罩安全帽危險，我的話應該是被錯誤的翻譯或錯誤的引用了。

我記得有和台灣記者稱讚現代安全帽在提高帽子後緣高度的改良，因它能減低受傷風險並避免頸椎傷害。

我之所提到後緣的改良設計是要稱讚這個發展，是我相信全罩安全帽比半罩安全帽好。

安全帽 不傷頸椎的全罩式較佳

騎機車要戴哪種安全帽？最近在網路上廣受討論，脊髓醫學權威楊詠威醫師答覆網友的詢問指出，他同意全罩式的安全帽優於半罩或3/4的安全帽；因為全罩式安全帽才能保護到大腦，並避免下巴及臉部受傷。

楊教授日前訪台時指出，全罩式安全帽帽緣高度在後腦的位置很重要，如果剛好卡在頸椎，遭受撞擊時很容易造成頸椎傷害而癱瘓，但後緣位置如果調整過，比頸椎高一些的話，就不會造成頸椎傷害。

他並非推廣大家戴半罩式安全帽，因為全罩式的安全帽保護力還是較周全，但須注意帽緣高度，經過改良設計、不會影響頸椎的全罩式安全帽，是機車騎士較理想的選擇。
